Bitcoin's Share of Bank Crypto Assets in Americas Drops Sharply
The Bitcoin share of bank crypto asset exposures in the Americas has declined significantly. According to data from the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision, Bitcoin's share dropped to 44.2% in the second half of 2025, down from 75.8%. In contrast, Ethereum rose to 38.5% of regional bank crypto holdings.
The shift away from Bitcoin is evident as other cryptocurrencies gained ground. Solana and XRP captured 7.8% and 5.6% respectively of regional bank crypto holdings. This diversification indicates a move towards a more diversified portfolio.
Crypto activity in the Americas surged 93% to €6.4 billion during the period, while Europe saw a decline of 25% to €1.9 billion. The data shows that other regions have shifted their composition more heavily toward stablecoins rather than volatile assets.
