Bitcoin's Surge to $87,000 Sparks Debate on Crypto Winter's End
Bitcoin has surged to its highest level since late January, briefly reaching $87,000 and currently trading above $80,000. This 40% rally over the past three months has sparked debate about whether the crypto winter, which began after the all-time high above $126,000 in October 2025, is ending. However, experts warn that the market may need a pause following such rapid gains.
Fundamental indicators suggest a stronger market backdrop, with increasing blockchain activity, growing institutional interest, and major financial firms focusing on Bitcoin infrastructure. Investors are also rotating capital from AI stocks back into cryptocurrencies, potentially fueling further price movements. Despite regulatory uncertainty, recent delays in the U.S. Senate have not hindered market growth due to favorable views from key regulatory agencies.
Signs of overheating are emerging, with investors realizing profits on 25,700 BTC on September 22 and altcoin transfers to exchanges reaching their highest levels since October 2025. However, new capital inflows are slowing, with spot demand falling by 170,000 BTC over 30 days. Rising U.S. Treasury yields and operational risks, such as the recent Bitget security breach, also pose challenges.
The current phase reflects a transition rather than an immediate return to a bull market. Maintaining the $80,000-$85,000 range is crucial for sustaining the broader bullish structure, while further gains will depend on fresh capital inflows and sustained real spot demand.
