Bitcoin's True Significance Goes Beyond Investment Potential
Rodolfo Andragnes, co-founder of ONG Bitcoin Argentina and founder of LABITCONF, has spent over a decade advocating for Bitcoin in Argentina. He first became involved with Bitcoin in 2011, when it was still largely outside the mainstream.
Andragnes believes that people struggle to see Bitcoin as more than an investment, failing to grasp its potential to reshape our understanding of money and power. He notes that while there is now more accessible information about Bitcoin, many still misunderstand its significance.
In recent years, the growth of institutional adoption and the introduction of Bitcoin ETFs have brought new attention to the cryptocurrency. However, Andragnes emphasizes that this does not change what Bitcoin represents, it simply provides an additional entry point for those who are not yet ready to take control of their own assets.
For Andragnes, self-custody remains crucial, as it ensures real ownership and avoids dependence on third-party intermediaries. He also highlights the importance of preserving decentralization and financial independence, which were core principles of Bitcoin's original design.
