Bitcoin's UTXO Model: A Decentralized Design for Secure Transactions
Bitcoin's Unspent Transaction Output (UTXO) model is an essential component of its decentralized design. Unlike traditional financial systems, which use account balances to track transactions, Bitcoin's UTXO model provides a clear and transparent way to verify transactions without relying on a central authority.
Each Bitcoin user has multiple UTXOs, each with its own value and conditions for spending. When a transaction occurs, the sender's UTXOs are consumed, and new outputs are created. This process allows for efficient and secure validation of transactions, making it easier to detect double-spending attempts.
The UTXO model also provides a clear history of value, as each output has a traceable relationship with previous transaction inputs and outputs. This transparency is achieved without the need for a centralized database, as thousands of independent nodes maintain and verify blockchain data.
