Bitget Exchange Hit in Suspected $180 Million Hack
A major suspected hack has struck Bitget, a cryptocurrency exchange, leaving millions of dollars in digital assets missing. On Thursday afternoon, a newly created address pulled over $180 million from Bitget-labeled wallets, with onchain records showing that the funds were withdrawn between 2:31 p.m. and 4:55 p.m. ET.
The first transfer was a small test of 0.84 ETH, followed by significant withdrawals of USDT, USDC, XAUT (tokenized gold), and AVAX from two Bitget wallets, Bitget 6 and Bitget 35. The stablecoins and gold tokens were then swapped for about 22,600 ETH over roughly 40 minutes.
By the end of Thursday afternoon, approximately $131 million in ETH sat across four addresses tagged as Bitget exploiters by Etherscan. An Arkham tracker built by a user showed around $183.8 million arriving from Bitget wallets across six networks, including Arbitrum and BNB Chain.
The incident has left many questions unanswered, particularly regarding how the wallets were accessed and whether customer balances are affected. Unchained has reached out to Bitget for comment, but the exchange has not yet responded publicly. Several users on X reported that their withdrawals were stuck in review.
