Bitget Exits Japan Amid Regulatory Pressures

Share

Bitget, a prominent cryptocurrency exchange, has announced its exit from Japan due to ongoing regulatory pressures. The exchange will cease accepting new registrations from Japanese residents as of August 3 and begin account restrictions on November 1, 2026.

The restrictions will affect users who have not completed Level 2 verification by the deadline. Unverified accounts will be classified as belonging to Japanese residents, leading to gradual service restrictions under Bitget's planned withdrawal process.

The exchange has warned users that any positions remaining open after December 31, 2026, will face forced closure. This means users must settle leveraged trades and derivatives positions before year-end or transfer their assets to a different account.

Bitget has faced regulatory warnings from Japanese authorities in the past, including concerns over unregistered crypto services and solicitation of online derivatives transactions. The latest withdrawal reflects growing pressure on overseas exchanges serving residents without registration.
