Bitget Hack: $387M Stolen in 3 Hours Across Four Blockchains
A cyberattack on Bitget has led to a massive $387 million theft, which was promptly distributed across four blockchain networks within just three hours. Chainalysis attributed the heist to DPRK-linked threat actors and tracked the stolen funds using its automated blockchain intelligence tools.
The attackers moved the funds in 23 transfers, with Ethereum accounting for 49.7% of the total, followed by XRP at 40.8%. Zcash and Tron represented 7.6% and 1.8%, respectively.
Chainalysis noted that tens of millions of dollars were moved through a cross-chain liquidity protocol, converted into Bitcoin over roughly a day and a half. The investigation used in-house artificial intelligence to accelerate fund tracing and reduce manual bridge reconciliation from 20 hours to just 10 minutes.
