Bitget Hack and Liquid Network Exploit Drive Crypto Hacking Incidents to Record High

Crypto hacking incidents reached a record high of 277 by September 27th, with losses nearing $1.84 billion in 2026. This marks an increase from 250 incidents and $1.4 billion in losses just over two weeks prior.

The largest breach this year occurred on September 24th at Bitget, resulting in approximately $388 million in losses. The attackers obtained internal access credentials and inserted forged withdrawal commands into hot and warm wallets, but cold wallets and private keys were not compromised.

In a separate incident, the Liquid Network was exploited on September 6th, allowing an attacker to withdraw around 4,000 BTC after exploiting a flaw in Elements software. Approximately 3,400 BTC was returned on September 7th, leaving about 602 BTC outstanding.
