Bitget Hack and Phishing Scheme Spark Record Crypto Losses in September

Share

September has turned out to be the worst month for crypto losses in 2026, marked by a massive hack at Bitget that resulted in $351.6 million in losses.

The breach, which was linked to North Korean actors based on IP evidence by Bitget's CEO, pushed total September losses to a record high.

In addition to the Bitget hack, nearly $16 million was stolen from 100 Coinbase users through a phishing scheme.

This has underscored persistent security vulnerabilities across exchanges and custodial services in the crypto space.
