Bitget Hack and Rate Jitters Keep Bitcoin Price Tethered to $84k
Bitcoin's price held steady near $84,000 on Friday as investors kept a close eye on rising Treasury yields and the fallout from a major hack targeting exchange Bitget.
The world's largest cryptocurrency fell by just 0.1% to $83,999.6 at 02:42 ET (06:41 GMT), but was still up 3.4% for the week.
Broader crypto prices were largely unchanged, but were also nursing gains for the week, thanks in part to favorable U.S. regulations that sparked an extended rally in the sector.
The hack on Bitget, which affected about $351.6 million in digital assets, was described as the biggest crypto breach by valuation this year.
Investigators found some ties from the breach to a North Korean hacking group, although the perpetrators were not immediately clear, according to CEO Gracy Chen.
