The third quarter of 2026 saw a significant spike in crypto security losses, with the total reaching $1.26 billion. This represents a 53.9% increase from the $819.4 million in losses during the previous quarter.

The Liquid Network suffered a $319 million exploit on September 6, ranking it as the second-largest incident of the quarter. Other notable incidents include the $120 million loss from Tectonic and the $112.7 million theft of Coldcard funds.
CertiK, a blockchain security company, tracked these incidents and reported that the number of security incidents increased by around 13% from the previous quarter, reaching 247. The company also noted that exploits accounted for nearly 96% of the month's losses in September, resulting in roughly $734 million in losses.
