Bitget Hack Exposes Weakness in Exchange Security Architecture
Bitget, one of the larger centralized cryptocurrency exchanges by trading volume, confirmed that hackers moved roughly $351.6 million out of its wallet infrastructure in a coordinated backend attack.
The breach occurred on September 24 and 25, 2026, when unauthorized transfers were detected from a limited number of hot wallets at 18:31 UTC.
The exchange's security systems flagged the issue within minutes, and emergency-response procedures were activated to contain the transfers. Customer withdrawals were temporarily suspended while the incident was investigated.
Bitget said its cold wallets, where the bulk of customer assets are stored offline, were never touched during the breach.
The company attributed the attack pattern to North Korean hacker organizations based on IP behavior patterns and on-chain analysis.
