Bitget Hack Pushes North Korea's Crypto Haul Past $1 Billion

Share

A recent hack of crypto exchange Bitget has pushed North Korea's haul from digital-asset thefts above $1 billion this year, according to analytics firm Elliptic Enterprises Ltd.

The hack on Thursday resulted in a loss of approximately $357 million for Bitget, with some of the funds showing connections to addresses tied to earlier hacks, including last year's record-setting $1.5 billion exploit of Bybit.

Elliptic said that the similarities between this hack and previous attacks attributed to North Korea, such as how the stolen crypto was moved and laundered, are likely evidence of state-sponsored cybercrime.
