Bitget Hacker Moves $83M in Stolen XRP as Ripple Struggles to Freeze Funds

Bitget's hacker has moved $83 million in stolen XRP from three wallets, leaving approximately $75 million remaining across original accounts. The funds were taken during a breach on September 24, with around 103 million XRP split across five wallets.

The problem for recovery teams is that the XRP Ledger does not allow issuers to freeze tokens they create on the ledger, including XRP itself. This means Ripple cannot simply freeze the stolen funds.

Bitget has increased its estimate of the total theft to $387.5 million, covering assets transferred across multiple networks. The exchange says customer balances remain unaffected and that protection fund covers the loss.
