Bitget Hackers Diversify Stolen Funds Amid Increased Screening
Bitget's hackers are turning to Zcash after their primary laundering route was blocked. The hackers attempted to move more than $50 million through cross-chain services, but most transactions were rejected due to increased screening.
The attackers have now shifted towards using Zcash's privacy features to hide the stolen funds. On Wednesday, 2,746 ZEC worth approximately $3.9 million was transferred into Zcash's Ironwood shielded pool, representing about 15% of the 18,917 ZEC stolen from the exchange.
Ironwood's shielded transactions break the public transaction trail investigators use to follow stolen assets, complicating Bitget's recovery effort. Transactions inside the pool conceal senders, recipients, and amounts, making it harder for investigators to link subsequent movements to their origin.
