Bitget Hit by $387.5 Million Hack Attributed to North Korean Attackers
Crypto exchange Bitget has resumed customer transactions after a massive hack that saw attackers steal $387.5 million (£293m) in funds.
The attack, which occurred on September 24, was highly consistent with known patterns of North Korean hacker organisations, according to Bitget's chief executive Gracy Chen.
The exchange, the world's fifth-largest by spot trading volumes, halted transactions immediately after detecting the attack and began resuming Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Tether transactions on September 28.
The hack is the largest of a crypto firm so far this year, according to TRM Labs, which has recorded 333 other incidents in 2026 totalling $1.73bn.
