Bitget Hit with Record-Breaking $387.5 Million Crypto Heist Tied to North Korea

A massive $387.5 million breach at Bitget has set a new record for the largest crypto theft of 2026, putting the entire tech industry on high alert.

The attack was carried out by state-sponsored hackers in North Korea, according to early evidence traced by security teams at Bitget.

Data from TRM Labs shows that North Korean groups are now responsible for nearly three-quarters of all stolen crypto in 2026.

The hackers compromised a backend software system and tricked Bitget's automated authorization checks into signing off on the withdrawals, resulting in 19 separate transactions draining funds across various blockchain networks.
