Bitget Reports Massive $351M Security Breach in 18 Minutes
Bitget has announced a significant security breach that resulted in approximately $351.6 million worth of digital assets being transferred out of its wallets over an 18-minute period.
The incident occurred on September 24, at 2:31 p.m. ET (18:31 UTC), when the exchange detected a series of transfers involving XRP Ledger, Ethereum, Arbitrum, Optimism, BNB Chain, Avalanche, and Base. The transfers continued until 3:16 p.m. ET (19:16 UTC).
Blockchain tracking revealed that $228 million left Bitget-linked wallets during this time. Of the total transferred funds, XRP accounted for approximately $153 million.
Bitget stated that its User Protection Fund held more than $464 million at the time of the breach, and that cold wallets remained secure while hot- and warm-wallet infrastructure was affected.
