Bitget Revises Security Breach Loss Estimate to $387.5 Million
Bitget, a cryptocurrency exchange, has revised its accounting of losses from last week's security breach. According to an updated incident report, $387.5 million was transferred to attacker-controlled addresses, up from an earlier estimate of $352 million.
The exchange attributed the adjustment to affected assets on Zcash and TRON that were left out of the initial estimate. Bitget emphasized that the revised total does not reflect further unauthorized transfers, stating that 'no further unauthorized transfers are possible.'
Withdrawals remain paused as the platform continues to work with users to freeze or recover the affected assets. A bounty program has been launched to incentivize efforts to identify and recover the stolen funds.
The incident involved multiple blockchain environments, including Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) networks, XRP Ledger, Zcash, and TRON. The attackers allegedly took a range of assets, including XRP, Ether (ETH), Tether's USDt (USDT), Zcash (ZEC), USDC, USDT0, XAUt, BNB, AVAX, and TRX.
