Bitget, a cryptocurrency exchange, has made plans to establish itself in Bhutan's Mindfulness City through a cooperation agreement. The agreement outlines how Bitget would set up a local entity and apply for a Financial Services Licence from the Gelephu Financial Services Office.

The licence is required under Bhutan's Financial Services Act 2025, which governs financial activities in the country. Both parties will also collaborate on operational and regulatory matters, as well as ecosystem development.

Bhutan has been actively exploring digital finance opportunities, including supporting green cryptocurrency mining using its hydropower resources. The country has also signed onto the Bitcoin Development Pledge, a commitment to support the growth of the Bitcoin network.
