Bitget Suffers $351.6 Million Crypto Security Breach

Share

Bitget, a global cryptocurrency exchange, has been hit by a major security incident on September 24, 2026. Approximately $351.6 million in digital assets were affected by unauthorized transfers from parts of its hot and warm wallet infrastructure. The exchange's cold wallets remained secure, and its User Protection Fund held more than $464 million.

The incident was detected at 18:31 UTC on September 24, and Bitget's emergency response protocols were activated immediately. Preliminary findings indicate that a North Korean hacking group may be linked to the breach, citing similarities with previous attacks and IP-related clues.

Bitget operates a three-tier wallet architecture, with hot wallets connected online for frequent transactions and withdrawals, warm wallets providing an intermediate buffer between hot and cold storage, and cold wallets remaining isolated for maximum security. The exchange said that deposits and trading remained operational during the security review, while withdrawals were temporarily suspended.
