Bitget's $388 Million Hack Highlights Third-Party Security Risks

Share

Bitget's recent cyberattack exposed a third-party security risk that has left the exchange facing significant challenges in recovering stolen funds. The attack, which occurred last week, resulted in the theft of nearly $388 million in cryptocurrency.

The exchange's CEO, Gracy Chen, said that about $1.1 million of the stolen funds had been frozen, but it is unlikely that a significant amount will be recovered due to the complexity of tracing digital assets through multiple wallets and exchanges.

Chen stated that exchanges have a responsibility to demonstrate their ability to protect users when security failures occur, and Bitget has committed its own capital to rebuilding a protection fund that was depleted during the incident.
