BitGo Shifts WBTC Infrastructure to Chainlink CCIP
BitGo is shifting $7.3 billion in Wrapped Bitcoin (WBTC) infrastructure from LayerZero to Chainlink's Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP). This move makes Chainlink the exclusive cross-chain provider for WBTC, a tokenized version of Bitcoin used on various blockchain networks.
The migration follows a wave of announced migrations from LayerZero to Chainlink CCIP, with projects such as Mantle, Lombard, Aave, and Kraken also making similar infrastructure changes. This shift has lifted announced CCIP moves near $15 billion.
BitGo will use Chainlink's CCT standard for future token launches and transfers, allowing the company to retain control of token contracts and transfer limits. This setup simplifies deployments while preserving direct control over token operations.
