Bitmain Leads Market Charge into 3nm Era
Bitmain's Antminer S1 marked the beginning of its journey in November 2013, producing 180 GH/s at 80-200 watts. The following year, Bitmain released the Antminer S2 with a hashrate of 1 TH/s.
The S5 arrived in late 2014, delivering 1.15 TH/s at 590W, while the S7 in mid-2015 used a 28nm process to reach 4.73 TH/s at 1,293W.
However, it was not until the S9 in 2016 that Bitmain achieved 14 TH/s at 1,375W using a 16nm FinFET design.
The company faced significant reliability issues with the S17 series in 2019, which promised 56 TH/s but reported failure rates between 30% and 50% within the first year.
Bitmain responded with the S19 series in 2020, utilizing 7nm chips to reach 95 TH/s.
The S21 XP remains the efficiency leader with 13.5 J/TH, while industry competitors like MicroBT produce the M60S at 18.5 J/TH.
