BitMart Closes Doors Amid Industry Shakeout
BitMart, a crypto exchange that opened its doors nearly a decade ago, announced on Sunday it would cease operations. This marks the third centralized exchange to shut down in two weeks, following AscendEX (ASD) and BitMEX (BMEX). The mid-tier exchange model has a 'fatal flaw' and needs a constant flow of new users, according to Simon Dedic, Founder and Managing Partner at Moonrock Capital.
All trading services will cease on August 26, and the platform will officially close on January 31, 2027. Withdrawals are still open but will take longer to process due to identity verification, compliance checks, and blockchain congestion. Users have been urged to close positions and submit withdrawal applications ahead of August 26.
The BMX token price crashed over 55% in the past 24 hours, with retail sentiment around it remaining in the 'neutral' zone on Stocktwits. This shutdown is part of a broader wave of exchange closures, with over 30 crypto projects shutting down this year alone.
