BitMart Trading Halted Amid Transparency Concerns
BitMart halted trading on August 26, despite its planned platform closure on January 31, 2027. The exchange's founder, Sheldon Xia, dismissed demands for withdrawal transparency, calling allegations of frozen funds and misallocated assets 'fabricated rumors.'
Users have been waiting to retrieve their money since the shutdown plan was announced in July, with some reporting stuck balances totaling around $10 million. The BMX token plummeted nearly 60% after the wind-down notice, signaling market distrust.
Xia's response to withdrawal demands via social media only fueled concerns about transparency and accountability. BitMart promised a proof-of-reserves publication in May but has yet to deliver, leaving users with uncertain claims against the company.
The exchange now plans to develop a restructuring plan as an alternative to full wind-down, which would involve phased resumption of operations and creditor distributions under review.
