BitMEX Shuts Down After 11 Years: Monthly Fees to Hit Remaining Balances
Derivatives exchange BitMEX has officially shut down after an 11-year run. The platform, which popularized perpetual swaps, stopped trading on its spot markets on September 21. The closure was announced in July by HDR Global Trading, the company behind BitMEX, citing a 'strategic review of the business and the broader crypto industry.'
The exchange's website remains open for logins and withdrawals, but new deposits will not be credited. Customers can still withdraw their funds, but will face a monthly account fee of 1% per year or $50 equivalent, whichever is greater.
BitMEX has also stated that customer assets are held apart from its own, and warned users to be cautious of scams offering priority withdrawals. The exchange's support center has been updated with information on the closure and fees.
