Bitmine Amasses 5% of All Outstanding Ethereum
Bitmine Immersion Technologies (BMNR) has acquired nearly 5% of all outstanding Ethereum, making it one of the largest holders of the cryptocurrency. The company purchased 17,362 Ethereum tokens last week, bringing its total to over 6 million tokens collectively worth around $16.3 billion at current prices.
Chairman Tom Lee is bullish on Ethereum due to its role as a primary network for stablecoin transactions, which are digital assets pegged to commodities or currencies like the US dollar. Stablecoins offer efficient payment transactions with reduced volatility compared to most cryptocurrencies.
Bitmine's value largely depends on Ethereum's performance, and investors should monitor how the stock trades relative to the net asset value of its Ethereum holdings over time. The company also offers perpetual preferred stock that yields 9.5% annually, but comes with risks if the company goes out of business.
