Bitmine Dives Deep into Ethereum Pool
Bitmine Immersion Technologies, led by chairman Tom Lee, has been buying Ethereum in large quantities for 14 months. In one week alone, it purchased over $19 million worth of ETH on August 17, and another $73 million worth just six days later.
The company's business model involves issuing new shares to fund its purchases, which can dilute the value of existing shares but may still be profitable if the stock trades above the value of the coins backing each share. So far, Bitmine has paid over $19 billion for Ethereum that was worth around $10.9 billion as of May 31.
Lee believes Ethereum will benefit from emerging trends such as asset tokenization and staking, which could position it to capture some of the value being created on its network or through other mechanisms. However, his past price predictions have not been accurate, so investors should approach this with a long-term perspective.
