BitMine Faces Crucial Decision as it Nears 5% Ethereum Threshold
BitMine Immersion Technologies is close to reaching its goal of owning 5% of Ethereum's supply, but its next move will be guided by stock valuation rules. According to a September 28th update, BitMine held 6,001,302 ETH as of that date, falling short of the target by just 103,698 tokens.
The estimated cost to buy the remaining tokens at the reference price of $279.8 million is roughly 42% of BitMine's reported cash and marketable securities pool of $672 million.
Chairman Tom Lee has hinted that the company may prioritize staking revenue over further Ethereum purchases, especially since it has already staked 84% of its holdings for an estimated annual yield of $358 million to $424 million. In July, BitMine repurchased about 5.5 million BMNR shares at an average price of $15.6156.
The company's next move will be crucial as it navigates the intersection of stock valuation and its goal to own a significant portion of Ethereum's supply. Lee is set to speak at Korea Blockchain Week on September 30th, where he may provide more insight into BitMine's strategy.
