BitMine Poised to Hit 5% Ethereum Target, But What's Next?
BitMine Immersion Technologies, an Ethereum treasury company, is nearing its goal of holding 5% of Ethereum's supply. According to its latest supply estimate, BitMine currently holds 6,001,302 ETH, leaving it just 103,698 tokens short of the target. At its reference price on Sept. 27, buying this remainder would cost approximately $279.8 million.
BitMine has reported having $672 million in cash and marketable securities as of the same date. This means that completing the goal looks financially feasible at its current assumptions, although the actual purchase price could change due to fluctuations in ETH's price and supply.
The company's chairman, Tom Lee, had previously signaled a gradual approach to the 5% threshold, with plans to spend on staking, infrastructure, and Ethereum-related investments. However, it remains unclear what BitMine will do once it reaches this target. The options include continuing to add ETH, preserving liquidity, buying back shares, or generating income from its existing tokens.
