BitMine Shares Rise 9%, but Ethereum Exposure Remains Substantial
BitMine (NYSE:BMNR) shares rose 9% on August 7, but its share buyback program remains minor compared to its significant Ethereum holdings. The company's exposure to Ethereum is substantial, with a $52 change in the token's price adjusting BitMine's gross ETH value by about $303 million, equal to the Friday value of its latest buybacks. This means that each $100 change in ether price adjusts the total ETH value by roughly $580 million, translating to $0.96 for each share as of July 9.
The $4 billion repurchase authorization is still substantial, but shares bought back as of Friday represent only 7.6% of that total. Disclosed cash accounted for merely 4.3%. Chairman Tom Lee stated management still considers the shares 'attractively valued.' The company added 10,399 ETH in the most recent reported week and bought back 4.5 million common shares.
Analysts maintain a positive outlook on BitMine, with B. Riley maintaining its Buy recommendation while lowering its price target from $33 to $25. Only three analysts contribute to the wider consensus, which restricts the strength of the signal. Investors are set to monitor another treasury update next week, focusing on repurchase amounts and staked ETH.
