Bitmine Sinks as Crypto Treasury Trade Unwinds
The crypto treasury trade is showing cracks, and the split between Bitmine Immersion Technologies (NYSE:BMNR) and Strategy (NASDAQ:MSTR) is wider than their respective coins' moves. While both stocks fell together, Bitmine's stock dropped 6% to $24.82, handing back a chunk of its recent strong run. In contrast, Strategy's stock slid only 1% to $142.79, a milder decline that aligns closer with the broader market.
The divergence is attributed to the different characteristics of each company's treasury holdings. Bitmine's balance sheet is heavily weighted towards Ethereum (CRYPTO:ETH), which has declined 2.5% over the past 24 hours to $2,450.54. As a result, Bitmine's stock is more sensitive to Ethereum's price movements.
Strategy's treasury, on the other hand, is more diversified and includes Bitcoin (CRYPTO:BTC) holdings worth $49.7 billion at a carrying value of $63.9 billion. The company has also implemented measures to stabilize its share price, including raising the STRC preferred dividend rate to 12% annualized.
Investors should monitor whether Bitmine's stock defends the $24 level and whether Strategy's stabilization program holds up against further market declines. It is essential for investors to scale their exposure to these stocks in line with what they can absorb if the underlying coins continue to fall.
