SpaceXAI's Colossus 2 data center in Memphis has become the world's largest AI facility, boasting an impressive 946 MW of IT power capacity. This massive infrastructure was completed on September 3, 2026, and houses approximately 1.112 million H100-equivalent compute units built on Nvidia's B200 and B300 chips.

The project cost a staggering $35.8 billion in capital investment, but the speed at which it was constructed is noteworthy. SpaceXAI opted for temporary natural gas turbines to quickly bring the facility online, rather than waiting years for grid connections and permanent power infrastructure.

This approach has raised questions about permits and environmental compliance, with plans to eventually remove around 69 of these temporary units once a permanent 1.2 GW gas power plant comes online by mid-2027.
