Bittensor Miners Turned Ethical Hackers Boost Bot Detection Efficacy

RedTeam, a subnet on Bittensor, is transforming miners into a global army of ethical hackers. The project, operated by cybersecurity firm Innerworks under Bittensor's subnet 61 (SN61), has seen remarkable results in its first phase: bot detection efficacy jumped from 74.3% to 99.5% over 11 months of continuous adversarial testing.

The 'Bot Virus' challenge will flip the traditional attacker-defender paradigm, tasking miners with creating adversarial agents that can simultaneously attack and defend. The Immune System, set to expand bot detection into real-time attack-and-defense operations, will feature encrypted submissions and enhanced incentive structures to reward continuous innovation.

RedTeam has run 14 distinct challenges since its launch in late 2024, deprecating 9 of them as the network's capabilities matured past the difficulty threshold. The project has already shown enterprise traction, with Innerworks integrating its technology with DeFi aggregation protocol 1inch and a major messaging application serving over 100 million daily active users.

The Immune System will also introduce alpha token buybacks funded through revenue from Innerworks' SaaS operations, alongside locked profits and upcoming emissions. This move is expected to incentivize continuous innovation within the network.
