Bitwise CIO Hougan: BTC Dominance Intact, Hyperliquid Emerges as Top Contender
Bitwise CIO Matt Hougan believes that the core group of digital assets he has long advocated for remains intact for the current bull cycle. Speaking on the New Era Finance Podcast, Hougan reaffirmed that Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Solana (SOL) and Chainlink (LINK) continue to hold a significant place in a broad cryptocurrency portfolio.
Hougan acknowledged that Hyperliquid (HYPE) has emerged as a strong candidate to join the group. He also highlighted Zcash (ZEC) for its focus on privacy and Venice for its AI positioning.
The Bitwise executive was particularly optimistic about Chainlink, citing the project's core protocol operations as a key driver of potential LINK token growth. Hougan believes that as regulatory pressure eases, token economies across the crypto sector will improve, enabling projects to develop revenue sharing, buyback mechanisms and more efficient incentive structures.
Hougan drew a sharp distinction between Bitcoin and other assets, calling BTC 'digital gold' and noting that traditional investors are increasingly questioning the risks of having their portfolios tied to fiat currency. He predicted that even modest allocation shifts toward scarce assets like Bitcoin and gold could drive substantial new capital into BTC.
