BlackRock Clients Flood Bitcoin with $454M Institutional Buying Spree
Institutional investors are driving Bitcoin adoption at an unprecedented pace, according to recent figures from BlackRock. In a single transaction, clients purchased approximately $453.96 million worth of Bitcoin during the week of August 17 through 25.
This represents the largest weekly total since October 2025 and marks a significant milestone in institutional accumulation. Total inflows across all spot Bitcoin ETFs reached around $3.3 to $3.52 billion in August, with BlackRock's iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) capturing the majority of those flows.
IBIT currently holds around $59 to $60 billion in assets and accounts for more than 75% of daily spot Bitcoin ETF inflows. BlackRock does not speculate on Bitcoin but rather transacts when client demand is present, expressed through purchases of IBIT shares, and acquires the underlying Bitcoin using Coinbase Prime as its custody partner.
The concentration of inflows into IBIT has competitive implications for the rest of the spot Bitcoin ETF field, with many institutional investors preferring the most liquid vehicle in a category. BlackRock notes that clients are using Bitcoin as a diversification tool to add an asset with low historical correlation to traditional stocks and bonds.
