Indian Rupee Sinks Near Two-Month Low as US NFP Data Looms

The Indian Rupee is trading near its two-month low ahead of the highly anticipated US Nonfarm Payrolls (NFP) data release on Friday. The RBI has reported strong foreign inflows through its FCNR scheme, which has bolstered reserve buffers and intervention capacity.

Fed Governor Christopher Waller stated that recent data indicates signs of slowing inflationary pressures, leading to a sharp decline in the US Dollar. This development pushed traders to pare back their hawkish Fed bets, with the CME FedWatch tool showing a one-in-two chance of a rate hike at the September meeting.

The upcoming NFP data is expected to be a major driver for the US Dollar's outlook. The ADP August private payrolls data showed labor demand remains unimpressive, adding only 38k private sector jobs in August compared to the consensus estimate of 47k. However, this miss may not have significant implications due to the weak correlation between monthly changes in ADP and NFP.
