BlackRock Sees AI as Catalyst for Blockchain Adoption

Share

BlackRock's research paper, 'The Machine-Native Economy', suggests that artificial intelligence could be a catalyst for blockchain-based infrastructure adoption. The firm argues that AI-driven transactions may require new payment systems, which digital assets could provide.

The report highlights the limitations of existing payment rails in supporting automation tasks, citing issues with account setup, credentialing, and authorization. BlackRock believes that stablecoins are well-suited to meet machine-to-machine needs due to their ability to facilitate high-frequency payments at low value levels.

Furthermore, the paper proposes that tokenized access to compute resources could enable trading and collateral use in the AI-driven economy. As AI workloads grow, AI firms may seek to lock in costs and manage provider risk by representing claims on compute capacity using tokens.
