BlackRock's Bitcoin ETF Surges Past Gold in Trading Volume
BlackRock's iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF (IBIT) had a remarkable day on September 18, 2026. The fund gained nearly 6% in value, with $1.56 billion in trading volume, placing it fifth among all ETFs and surpassing the SPDR Gold Shares ETF (GLD) by about 72%. In fact, IBIT's trading value was more than twice that of GLD, which traded at around $398.96.
IBIT's price movement also outpaced GLD's, with a daily increase of approximately 5.9% compared to the gold ETF's mere 0.15%. This significant difference in performance has raised eyebrows, especially considering JPMorgan's recent prediction that Bitcoin could potentially gain more than gold if ETF hedging eases.
The session data highlights IBIT's growing popularity and increasing trading volume. While it still lags behind the likes of SPY and QQQ, its performance is undoubtedly a testament to the growing interest in cryptocurrency investments.
