BlackRock's ETHA Reverse Split Set for October: What It Means for Investors
BlackRock is planning to carry out a 1-for-3 reverse share split for its iShares Ethereum Trust ETF, ETHA. This means that every three shares of ETHA will be consolidated into one new share, effectively raising the net asset value per share without changing the total investment value.
The split will take effect on October 6, 2026, and investors holding ETHA shares as of the record date of October 5, 2026, will see their positions automatically adjusted to reflect the new ratio. The change is aimed at reducing trading costs and making the shares cheaper and easier to trade.
According to analyst Eric Balchunas of Bloomberg, the split will push the per-share price of ETHA from around $14 to roughly $42, cutting trading costs from about 7 basis points to around 2. This is expected to make it more cost-effective for investors to buy and sell shares in the fund.
It's worth noting that no fractional shares will be issued as part of the process. If an investor has a leftover fraction after the consolidation, it will be redeemed in cash, which may have tax implications depending on their situation.
