BlackRock's Lack of Interest in XRP ETFs Signals Bearish Outlook
BlackRock, the $15 trillion asset management giant, dominates the crypto exchange-traded fund (ETF) space with the largest spot Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH) ETFs. Despite XRP (XRP) being the world's fifth-largest cryptocurrency with a market cap nearing $100 billion, BlackRock has not filed an application for a spot XRP ETF, even though seven such ETFs already exist.
The seven spot XRP ETFs collectively hold $1.77 billion in assets under management, showing some investor interest. Major players like Franklin Templeton, Grayscale, 21Shares, and Bitwise are involved. However, BlackRock cites insufficient client demand as the reason for not launching an XRP ETF, despite the firm prioritizing client demand for new funds.
BlackRock's Bitcoin ETF, the iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT), has $67 billion in assets, while its Ethereum ETF holds $10 billion. These figures dwarf the $1.77 billion in XRP ETFs, indicating much lower demand for XRP. Analysts had predicted up to $8 billion in XRP ETF inflows, but actual figures fell far short, suggesting overestimation of investor demand.
Currently trading at $1.50, XRP's potential for significant price increases appears limited without substantial new investment. Until BlackRock shows interest in XRP for its clients, the outlook for the cryptocurrency remains bearish.
