Ethereum layer-2 network Blast is shutting down due to unsustainable operating costs.

The team announced on X that they cannot cover their expenses with the revenue generated from the chain, leaving no 'credible path' to sustainability.

Blast's DeFi activity has contracted sharply since mid-2024, with its TVL down more than 98% from its June peak at $2.2 billion.

The team instructed users to withdraw funds to Ethereum mainnet and has set a deadline of October 26 for withdrawals using the standard interface.
