Blast Shuts Down Ethereum L2 Due to Excessive Operating Costs
Blast, a Ethereum Layer 2 network, is shutting down due to operating costs exceeding revenue.
The team announced the decision on X on October 2, 2026, stating that the cost of running Blast now exceeds the revenue it generates.
Users have until October 26 to withdraw their assets through the normal Blast interface.
About $63.03 million was held in Blast's canonical bridge on Ethereum as of October 2.
Blast was launched with the goal of building a self-sustaining chain for users and developers, but the 'economics of operating the chain no longer make sense'.
The shutdown will happen in steps, starting with a pause on withdrawals and followed by the withdrawal of Lido-held assets.
