Blob Fees Plummet, Memecoin Trading Shifts
Ethereum Layer 2 networks have seen significant improvements in transaction fees thanks to the introduction of EIP-4844, also known as blobs. This upgrade allows rollups to use temporary data packages called blobs, reducing fees by approximately 90% to 95%. The improved compression and competition between Layer 2 platforms have further reduced prices. However, blob prices can still fluctuate depending on market demand and network congestion.
Zcash is set to activate its Ironwood upgrade at mainnet block 3,428,143 on July 28. This change introduces a new shielded pool, closes Orchard to new outputs, and completes the move away from the retired zcashd client. Node operators must run Zebra 6.0.0 or newer to remain compatible.
The trading environment for memecoins has changed significantly in 2026. Institutional capital is now concentrated around Bitcoin, Ethereum, exchange-traded products, and tokenized equities, while speculative activity has shifted to new Layer 2 networks and smaller decentralized pools. This fragmentation makes execution increasingly important, and traders must examine depth, bridge reliability, governance rules, and token ownership before entering.
