Blockchain Association Leadership Shifts Amid CLARITY Act Defeat

Share

The Blockchain Association (BA), a leading lobbying group for the U.S. cryptocurrency industry, is undergoing a leadership shakeup after the CLARITY Act's procedural defeat in the Senate.

The association announced that CEO Summer Mersinger will step down effective October 16, with Kristin Smith taking over as interim CEO on October 17. Mersinger had been leading BA since June 2025 and resigned mid-term from her position at the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) to join the organization.

The CLARITY Act, which was one of BA's top policy priorities in Washington, aimed to clarify regulatory jurisdiction between the SEC and CFTC. However, it failed to pass a cloture vote on September 15, with only 49 votes in favor and 50 opposed.
