Blockchain Association Pushes Back Against Sheriffs' Criticism of CLARITY Act

Share

The Blockchain Association has responded to concerns raised by the National Sheriffs' Association regarding the proposed CLARITY Act, which aims to provide clarity on digital asset regulation in the United States.

In a letter submitted to Senate Majority Leader John Thune, the Blockchain Association disputes several inaccuracies and mischaracterizations made by the National Sheriffs' Association about the legislation.

The main points of contention involve decentralized finance (DeFi), cryptocurrency mixers, blockchain bridges, and anti-money laundering (AML) requirements. The Blockchain Association argues that the CLARITY Act does not exempt unlawful activity from enforcement and does not provide blanket legal protections for decentralized platforms.

The organization also contends that the legislation clarifies regulatory treatment without preventing authorities from pursuing unlawful actors operating within the digital asset ecosystem.
