Blockchain Betting Booms at 2026 FIFA World Cup
The 2026 FIFA World Cup generated $20 billion in blockchain-based prediction market volume, according to Chainalysis. This massive figure is a testament to the growing popularity of blockchain betting platforms among soccer fans worldwide.
Bettors placed close to $5.7 billion in wagers during the five-week tournament itself, with more than 400,000 wallets taking part in the betting. The United States and China posted the highest attributable trading volumes, followed by Canada, Thailand, and the United Kingdom.
The report also highlighted the wide geographic spread of users, showing that blockchain-based betting tools have a strong global appeal. While some concerns about illicit activity were raised, Chainalysis found that fewer than 1% of wallets tied to World Cup prediction markets had links to illicit actors.
Furthermore, digital collectibles tied to the World Cup saw significant trading volume, with FIFA Collect NFTs reaching about $24 million in trading during the tournament. The platform's identity verification requirements helped limit illicit access to the platform, resulting in a low number of wallets linked to sanctioned entities.
