Blockchain.com Seeks $500M IPO with Valuation Below Peak
Blockchain.com, a prominent crypto exchange and wallet provider, is reportedly seeking to raise around $500 million in an initial public offering (IPO) this year. The company's plans come as capital markets begin to reopen for crypto companies following the market recovery that began last month.
The reported IPO valuation of between $4 billion and $6 billion is well below Blockchain.com's 2022 peak valuation of $14 billion, which was reached during the previous crypto boom. This suggests that the company may be aiming for a more realistic valuation in the current market conditions.
It's worth noting that recently listed crypto companies such as Gemini, BitGo, and eToro have struggled to hold their gains, with shares down roughly 50% to 80% from their post-IPO highs. Despite this, Blockchain.com remains open to a smaller offering if needed to complete a public listing.
The company confidentially filed draft registration documents with the US Securities and Exchange Commission in May, paving the way for a potential IPO. The move is seen as a positive sign for the crypto industry, which has faced challenges in accessing capital markets in recent years.
