Blockchain Hacking Soars 440% as AI-Fueled Malware Spreads
Reports have emerged of a significant increase in hackers using blockchains to aid their attacks. According to Chainalysis, instances of malware instructions written into on-chain transactions and smart contracts have surged by 440% in less than a year. This represents an average of 11 cases per day, up from just two per day before the release of powerful Chinese open-source AI models with no restrictions on generating malicious code.
The rise in blockchain-based cybercrime is attributed to the ease with which hackers can now hide malicious code using artificial intelligence. Open-source AI has made it simpler for attackers to conceal their malware instructions within on-chain transactions and smart contracts, making it harder for security measures to detect and prevent these attacks.
Chainalysis warns that this trend poses a significant threat to the crypto industry, which is already grappling with rising cybercrime. The report highlights the need for increased vigilance and more effective security measures to combat this new front in blockchain-based hacking.
